Labiya is a middle-eastern origin dessert. Extremely simple to make, just needs a few simple steps and Voila! the most delicious and a unique desert is ready to make your guests say wow! This recipe is borrowed from my dear mummy, I have no idea from where she learnt it! but I remember this being made at our place in Riyadh during parties and get-togethers. So, here goes.... Do give it a shot and let me know what u think! Labiya dessert Serves - 5-6 Duration - 15 mins ( Cooking time) 90 mins (Setting time)
Ingredients
White Bread slices - 8
Milk - 1 litre
Caramel Custard - 2 sachets
Sugar - 3 tbsp + 1 tsp
Nestle Cream tin - 1
Powdered Pistachio - garnish
Method -
Take a rectangular tray
Cut the edges of the bread. and place it at the base of the tray.There should be two layers of bread.
Pour milk in a pot, heat it, once hot, add the caramel custard powder, and 3 tbsp sugar and mix well.
Bring this mixture to boil.
Remove from heat and let it sit for a min. Pour this mixture on the bread slices, making sure the bread totally absorbs the caramel mixture. poke it with a folk so that the bread is entirely covered.
Now let it cool, keep it in the refrigerator to set.
After 2 to 3 hours, once set, add tsp of sugar in nestle cream and pour it on top of the dessert.
Garnish with powdered pistachio.
Delicious Labiya is ready to be served! Serve Chilled!
Cooking tips -
When you pour the caramel mixture on the bread, poke it well using a folk. sometimes there are parts of bread that are dry. that shouldn't happen!
You can pick up the tray and check if you can see the white bread from beneath, if yes... then poke it well so it is well soaked.
